About Us

Kim's Costumes rents (and sells) costumes, makeup, and accessories for all kinds of holidays, special events, theatrical performances, pretty much any situation where you might want to dress up.
We are a full-service shop. Sometimes a client comes in for an item off the rack or orders something by phone, email or web. Other times we work closely with the production, custom designing a complete set of costumes for the performance. We sometimes work backstage during a performance, helping with costume changes and any costume emergency that may arise.
We have an extensive selection in the shop, and can special order just about any costume, accessory, or makeup item on the market. If it isn't on the market, we can probably make it for you.

Who we are

Kim's Costumes is a family company. You can usualy find Kim at the shop, often accompanied by her husband or some of her children. About half the rental stock is hand-made by Kim and her family, mostly as special orders for one performance or another.

The Story

When Kim was a little girl, she and her friend were going to go as witches one Halloween. Her friend got a nice costume, Kim's Mom got her a plastic one. She was heartbroken, and told her Mom she'd never do that to her kid. So when Kim's daughter Alice came along, Kim's Mom reminded her of what she had said. Kim made a costume for Alice. And some of Kim's friends asked her to make costumes for their kids. Kim made them, and the friends gave them back to her when they were done with them. And Kim made some for her other kids. Kim ended up with a pretty good pile of costumes. She was working at a resale shop at the time, and made a deal with the owner: Kim had one rack of the resale shop for the month of October to rent out her costumes, for a percentage of the rental fee.
A few years later, the resale shop closed. And an actress in a local theater group needed a dress made. Soon Kim was making costumes for the theater group on a regular basis. Kim and the theater group decided to open a theater with a costume shop in the back. Kim and her husband turned an empty storefront into that theater and shop, and Kim's Costumes was in business. Soon Kim's Costumes outgrew the space and moved to a larger facility. Kim's Costumes outgrew that space, and two others, and here we are!
